Classical Elements
24/May/10 | permalink

This Radio dBM broadcast serves up a healthy serving of string beats! New and not-so-new electro tracks infused with the classical elements of piano, violin and cello. This is a mostly laid back mid- to downtempo mix that crescendo's in the middle with a track from Pretty Lights. On rise and on the downstroke, you'll hear tracks from Beats Antique, Clubroot, Random Rab, DJ Rupture, Ana Sia, ill-esha, Bonobo, Rena Jones and Nitin Sahaney. This mix spans genres from glitch to dubstep, nu-jazz to drum & bass.
Through it all, two elements remain the same - strings and beats.

Through the Portal
09/March/10 | permalink

Journey through the Portal and into BRC for Evolution 2010 with Moontroll, Grapnutz, Edubious and the Destination Burning Man crew. The saga opens as the tribe, fresh off the road from the Pacific Northwest and having passed through the gates of their favorite city to the strains of Guns n' Roses, find themselves destitute wanderers in Black Rock City.
After being driven away from their scheduled rendezvous with the temple building crew at Camp Get Lost -- the blaring 24/7 death metal and over-the-top negative vibes from the neighboring Voted Best Camp sent them in to refugee status -- Camp dBM find themselves searching for peace, as well as a spare generator to fuel their dream of a small sound camp to call home.
In this mix you'll hear Telepopmusik, Random Rab, Beats Antique, Baby Mammoth, John Kennedy, Lynx & Janover, G n' R (?!), The Pixes a la Bassnectar, Bluetech, Heyoka and more.
Come in. Step through the Portal with us. Sit by our fire, for we have some flax golden tales to spin!

Playa Dawning
08/August/09 | permalink

This mix from DJ Edubious flows with that 4 am, pre-sunrise come-down vibe. It also sets a different tempo than any other Radio dBM mix -- this is one is strictly downtempo but still brings some glitch, house, breakbeat and organic vocal vibes to soothe you no matter yo' mood. We're sure you'll find the right space of mind to settle into this chill electromix. Headphones and low-light highly recommended!
Less than a month until the portal opens. We'll see you on the Playa -- check in at Center Camp's camp registry to find out where we've erected Camp dBM and the dBM dome, then bike on over for a cocktail and some live mixing by the dBM crew. We know you're out there and we'd love to meet you personally in Black Rock City!

Edubious is back in cyberspace Dubcasting on Radio dBM! Theis Darwin's Furrowed Brow mix is a follow up to Darwin's Weird Beard - the second Burning Man Evolution-themed podcast from DJ Plyaduster. This mix is a compilation of some of the tracks that I'll be taking to the playa. According to the count down on the dBM blog page, there are only 74 days until the Man burns in Black Rock City. This mix will fuel your creative muse as you plan, build, pack and get stoked for the portal opening on the Playa. Darwin's Furrowed Brow researches the evolution of hip hop, R&B, dancehall and reggae into glitch, breaks, dubstep and house. Plenty of remixes here - Break Beat Buddha, Bassnectar, Mimosa, Obi-j, Grant Phabao, Kraddy, DJ/rupture and more!
All of us here at dBM are lighting it up and preparing for this year's Burn. We hope to see you on the playa!

East to West

Welcome to another episode of Edubious Compilations. This session will take you on a journey into the rhythms and instruments of India. Interwoven with sitar, tabla, Hindu chants and smooth Indian diva vocals, this mix keeps the beats in the pocket and grounded in western electronica.
You'll hear a few songs from previous mixes, like the Medina Remix of Toura Toura from DJ Cheb I Sabah (who gets a lot of play in this session); and the Desert Dwellers remix of 'Manifest' from Karsh Kale. Also setting the tone for this musical journey is Bahramji & Maneesh De Moor, Indianism, Bill Laswell's Tabla Beat Science, Govinda, Suphala, Theivery Corporation, Ikarus and Phobos.
The cover art for this mix is from an incredible artist named Andrew Jones. Check out more of his work at www.androidjones.com .
As always, thanks for listenin'. I'd like to know you're out there so holla if you hear me!

Dubstep Sampler

I have been exploring the genre of Dubstep recently. It's heavy and dark - kind of like the winter that is moving into the Northwest. Its not really a reflection of my mood, but it does reflect my wide ranging musical explorations...

This Sampler is five tracks from Jazzsteppa, Peverelist, MRK1, Gravious and Martyn. None of whom I've ever heard of before. My guess is that this will be as new for you as it is for me. I'm not totally sure about it yet, but I wanted to drop it on ya and give you something new to ponder.
This is the first Sampler that I've dropped and it probably won't be the last. I'll use this short format to drop a little taste of the new music that's in my ears. In this case, its a new sound and I've only aquired a few tracks. I may also use the Sampler to give you a taste of the other styles of music that I've got buried in my collection. You might like it. You might not, but at least have a little taste and find out!

This is the
final episode of the Burning Trilogy that catalogued my journey to
Burning Man 2007. If you are a regular listener to my podcast, you
will definitely hear the influence of the playa soundscape in this
mix.
This mix includes the sounds of Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, Karsh Kale, Sayr, Up, Bustle, & Out, a fresh remix of Bob Marley, Boswick Gates, and Jamiroquai. I have just begun to explore the world of breaks and IDM, so you will probably hear more of these sounds in future mixes. Field recordings from the Playa were captured by DJ Playaduster, who is working out his own musical response to our experience in the desert.
To Hekter, Ramona Mayhem, Torsten, Hendy and moontroll: much respect for their creative contributions to this mix and my playa experience!
I'd love to know you're out there and listening, so holla if you hear me!

Tribal Trancelations

This episode
continues my musical journey toward the Burn with a set that was
conceived specifically with the Playa experience in mind. This mix
is rich with drums, world beats, indegenious voices and textures -
and did I mention DRUMS?

I took some
liberty with layering tracks to create a seamless and ethereal
soundscape that will transport you to places unknown and
unexpected. Come with me on a trip to Latin America, India, drift
over to Malaysia, go down under to Australia and visit the craddle
of man in Africa. Flowing throughout this collection of world music
are the familar head noddin' beats that you have come to expect
from Edub and Cottage Groove Studios. This journey will lead us to
Black Rock City where all worlds collide and the Earth Tribe
gathers to celebrate!
